X-Words 1.2, July 1996, by Andrew Trevorrow (akt@kagi.com)
==========================================================
X-Words is a meta-Scrabble-like word game for 1 to 4 players.
All the details on how to play can be found in the About X-Words
dialog under the Apple menu. Make sure you read the Handy Hints
topic, and if you have an older version of X-Words then see the
Version History topic for a list of changes.
The supplied word lists
-----------------------
X-Words uses a list of words when looking for a move, and when
checking that a word you've made is legal. To help set up an
even contest, you can load any one of the following word lists:
- "Words" (the default) has about 40,000 words suitable for adults.
- "For Kids" has 2,000 words suitable for children aged 5 to 7.
- "For Juniors" has 10,000 words for children aged 8 and up.
- "Lots of Words" has over 110,000 words for aficionados.
Please let me know if you find any spelling errors in these lists.
Note that I have included both US and UK spellings for many words.
Feel free to add or delete words as you see fit; this is very easy
to do using the Edit item in the Words menu.
System and memory requirements
------------------------------
X-Words will run on every Macintosh model from a Mac Plus up to a
Power Mac (in native mode), and under any System version (4.1 and
up to be precise). It will also work with any type of monitor:
large or small, color or monochrome.
X-Words is distributed with a preferred memory size of about 1500K
so that "Lots of Words" can be loaded. If you only intend to use
the other smaller word lists then set the preferred memory size
down to about 800K.
Shareware fee
-------------
If you decide to keep X-Words, please pay the shareware fee:
Australia Rest of the world
AUS$20 US$20 (or equivalent amount in your local currency)
This is a one-time-only fee that covers you for ALL future versions.
There is also a $200 site fee which would, for example, cover all
staff and students at a school.
The best way to pay is to use the Register program distributed with
X-Words. It lets you pay in various ways and supports all the major
credit cards (the cheapest option for people outside Australia).
Register is set up for US dollars. Australian residents and other
people who prefer not to use Register can send their payment by
cheque or cash to:
Andrew Trevorrow
30 Douglas St.
Rosanna 3084
Australia
If you want to, include the following information with your payment:
Name: ____________________________________________________
E-mail: ____________________________________________________
Type of Mac: ____________________________________________________

When I receive payment I will send you a registration number to
remove the reminder dialog that appears when X-Words starts up.
I provide e-mail support to registered users, so send all your
comments, queries and suggestions to akt@kagi.com.
